Laval's smart street lighting and dynamic signage projects, powered by Dimonoff, have earned a finalist spot in Écotech Québec's Eureka! 2024 Awards
Eurêka! 2024 Awards: City of Laval Finalist for Its Intelligent Street Lighting and Dynamic Signage Project
We are pleased to announce that the Ville of Laval (City of Laval) has been named a finalist in the “Municipal” category of Écotech Québec’s Eureka! 2024 Awards. This nomination recognizes two Dimonoff projects: smart street lighting control and dynamic traffic signs. These two initiatives, though distinct, are centralized and controlled by Dimonoff | SCMS, a smart city management system enabling total integration and enhanced operational efficiency.
Smart Street Lighting: Towards Optimized Energy Control
In 2021, Laval modernized its public lighting infrastructure by converting 37,000 traditional luminaries into energy-efficient LED fixtures. Thanks to Dimonoff | SCMS smart controls, the city can control each luminaire in real time, adjusting light intensity as needed, detecting failures automatically, and proactively managing maintenance operations. Not only does this advanced control considerably reduce energy consumption, it also reduces the need for maintenance teams to travel, thus contributing to substantial savings.
In figures, Laval saves over $2.75 million each year in energy and maintenance costs, and reduces its greenhouse gas emissions by 10,607 tonnes of CO₂, an energy saving of 15 million kWh. This project represents major progress towards a more sustainable city and state-of-the-art public lighting management.
Dynamic Signage: Connected Panels for Efficient On-Street Parking Management
Building on the success of its smart street lighting project, Laval has extended its smart city initiative by launching a new project. The first phase involves the installation of 5,000 dynamic traffic signs in the city’s most densely populated areas. The next phase will see the addition of up to 18,000 further panels.
Using the same smart network as the luminaires, these signs provide drivers with real-time information on parking restrictions and maintenance periods in certain areas of the city. Thanks to this connected signage system, Laval optimizes on-street parking management during snow removal and maintenance operations. The system also reduces the risk of accidental infractions and towing, thus minimizing citizen frustration and contributing to the smooth running of operations.
Two Urban Transformations Through a Centralized Smart City Management System
Centralized Management for a Smart, Connected City
One of the main advantages of these projects is their centralization thanks to Dimonoff | SCMS. This urban asset management system enables Laval to control not only street lighting, but also dynamic traffic signs, via a single interface. This centralized platform offers a complete, real-time view of urban infrastructure, while simplifying management, reducing costs and enabling more responsive operations.
The Eureka! Awards: Recognition for Innovative Energy-Efficient Projects
"This award nomination reinforces our determination to continue developing energy-efficient and interconnected solutions for smart cities. Dimonoff is honored to accompany Laval in its transition to more sustainable infrastructures, helping to make this city a model of connectivity and energy efficiency."
