Digi Honours Dimonoff’s Smart Streetlight Solution with the 2025 Green Tech Award
Dimonoff is honoured to be named the 2025 Green Tech Award winner in the Smart City Lighting category by Digi International. Announced just days before Earth Day, this recognition celebrates technology providers whose solutions measurably reduce energy use and carbon emissions. For Dimonoff, it confirms that our smart lighting solutions are turning cities’ climate goals into tangible results on the ground.
Smart Lights, Smarter Earth
Dimonoff provides a solution that transforms ordinary streetlights into IoT‑enabled nodes that talk to each other via Digi XBee® radios on a self‑healing DigiMesh® network. From a single cloud‑based dashboard, Dimonoff | SCMS (Smart Lighting Control System), cities and utilities can dim or brighten fixtures in real time, meter energy at the pole, detect faults automatically and dispatch crews only when diagnostics say it’s needed. The result is a lighting grid that uses far less electricity, costs less to maintain and doubles as a wireless backbone for future smart city sensors.
On the eve of Earth Day, this matters: street lighting represents up to 40 % of a municipality’s electricity bill, so smarter lights are a quick win for climate action. Our recent deployments tell the story:
- The City of Laval, QC upgraded 37 000 luminaires and added 5 000 dynamic signage panels on the same SCMS network. The city is on track to save CA $ 2.75 million a year and cut 15 million kWh of electricity, avoiding 10 607 t CO₂ annually.
- The City of Columbus, OH is in the midst of a 58 000‑light conversion. Leveraging SCMS, the city can dim by zone, receive outage alerts instantly and pave the way for future integrations (smart parking, air‑quality sensing and more), all on the same wireless mesh.
“Winning Digi’s Green Tech Award is far more than a trophy; it validates eighteen years of R & D focused on helping cities do more with less energy. Every kilowatt saved counts, and our partnership with Digi makes those savings scale across entire city networks.”

Measured Savings, Lasting Value
As shown, cities that deploy Dimonoff | SCMS typically carve out up to 50 % in electricity use and about 40 % in maintenance costs, recovering their investment within three to five years. The savings come from smart dimming that adjusts brightness based on real-time needs, automated alerts that notify crews only when there’s a real issue, and data-driven tools that extend the lifespan of each fixture. All of this operates through a resilient Digi XBee® wireless mesh network that ensures reliable, uninterrupted communication across the entire system.
Just as important, Dimonoff | SCMS’s open API turns each connected streetlight into a launchpad for new urban services. Municipalities can guide first responders with flashing beacons, mark evacuation routes, monitor air quality and noise, manage indoor and outdoor parking, or splash colour onto landmarks via the RTM wireless lighting node, without tearing up existing infrastructure. The result is a platform that delivers quick financial returns today and a flexible runway for tomorrow’s smart city innovations.
“We are proud to recognize these exceptional organizations for their commitment to sustainability and their forward-thinking use of IoT technology. These innovators have developed and deployed cutting edge applications with Digi solutions that optimize energy use, improve resource management, and create more sustainable systems. Their dedication to environmental stewardship serves as an inspiration for industries worldwide.”
