New Dynamic Signage Panels to Manage On-Street Parking for the City of Laval
Last January 9, Laval’s city council gave the go-ahead for the installation of nearly 5,000 dynamic signage panels to optimize maintenance and snow removal operations and the use of on-street parking spaces. These devices, which will be installed in the city’s two most densely populated areas, will be controlled by a new dynamic on-street parking system.
This turnkey project, jointly carried out by Dimonoff and its partners Pierre Brossard (1981) Ltée and Trafic Innovation, will take 1 year to complete, with a total investment of $37 million.
Internet of Things for Urban Innovation
At the heart of this project is the Dimonoff | SCMS platform, a centralized management solution for remote control and monitoring of all the smart new billboards. This technology is powered by low-voltage smart wireless nodes – LNLV. These provide robust connectivity and communication with the gateways, playing an essential role in the dynamic management of the illuminated signage displays. Innovatively, these panels will be powered by sustainable energy sources, namely solar panels.
Thanks to seamless integration, this advanced technology enables real-time responsiveness for citizens. Clear, precise messages are broadcast to parking lot users when maintenance activities are required, in both winter and summer.
This technology was chosen by the city after several pilot projects in the area. It is a solution that has been tested and evaluated on the basis of citizen satisfaction, operational viability and ease and efficiency of management. The advantages of this type of digital signage include its flexibility and clarity.
Smart Lighting for a Modern City
This partnership is a continuation of Dimonoff’s smart street lighting conversion project with the City of Laval. With the implementation of the project to convert 37,000 luminaries to light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures and an intelligent lighting management system (IMS), Laval is already at the forefront of urban innovation.
Starting in 2021, this project has seen the City of Laval using its smart streetlight infrastructure to elevate its technological capabilities. Thus, traditional streetlights were transformed into multifunctional hubs, known as smart poles. These smart poles are designed to serve as central nodes in the city’s urban ecosystem, capable of seamlessly integrating with various systems and sensors. This strategic approach reflects Laval’s commitment to improve the efficiency and quality of services provided to citizens.
Two Urban Transformations Through a Centralized Smart City Management System
Cutting-Edge Parking Signs
"Dynamic parking signage is more than just a technological innovation; it's a catalyst for urban change. By providing real-time information on current operations, our goal is clear: to improve the citizen experience while optimizing the management of municipal operations in the city's busiest areas."

Public Benefits From Dynamic Parking Management
Gradual Deployment of Smart Signage Panels
This technology will be deployed progressively in the sectors included in the project. According to the preliminary schedule, work is expected to begin in the summer of 2024. The system will be installed in the Chomedey sector during the winter of 2024-2025, and then in the Pont-Viau and Laval-des-Rapides sectors during the summer of 2025.
By investing in this innovative project, the City of Laval is once again demonstrating its commitment to modernization and sustainable innovation for the well-being of its population.
"Our collaboration with the City of Laval illustrates the infinite potential of urban interconnectivity. These new dynamic parking signs are a clear example of how technology can transform a city, optimize resources and deliver a smarter urban experience."
